Beautifully written, Molly. Iām a baseball guy that followed soccer in large part because of my respect for Grant and an appreciation for his writing. Such a tragic loss. Thank you fir sharing your thoughts.
Beautiful. I know as a "word person" how it can both help and be excruciatingly painful to write about a dear friend gone too soon. Thank you for sharing your insights into a wonderful human being. May his memory be a blessing to you and all his loved ones.
I am so sorry for your loss. I didn't know him, just followed his words over the years and as a women's soccer fan and ACFC season ticket holder he brought so much excitement leading into the first season. Devastating to fans everywhere, I can't imagine how hard it must be for his family and friends. ļ漚š»
So beautifully written, Molly. Iām so sorry for you and all who knew and loved Grant. He sounds like an amazing person and Iām sad Iām just discovering his work now.
Thank you for writing this, Molly, and I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm one of the many who subscribe to both of your substacks. At least in part, it's because you are both good human beings. The world needs more people like Grant Wahl, and like you. I'm sad I'll never get to listen to that podcast. He will be so very deeply missed.

This is me as well: a dual-subscriber fan of two people. People who happen to write about two things I care deeply about in no small part due to these two peopleās passion and the way they write about things I love (the Dodgers and soccer - oh, and equality and justice). You two are cut from a similar cloth, in that I imagine your followers feel connected with you in ways that we felt with Grant. This is such a beautiful tribute, Molly - captures what made him special like nobody else has today. This just hurts so much.
Iām very very concerned about grantās readers having a place to gather and grieve. Some of you have had a 25 year relationship with Grant through his words and it must feel like losing a family member.
substack is going to put together a tribute for grant and there will be more info soon.
Molly...I am not a soccer fan, nor was I aware of Grant or his writings but after reading your and Joe Posnanskiās columns today I wish I had known him. This was a beautiful tribute to clearly a great human being. Thank you for this.
Such a lovely tribute to a truly good person. Iām so sorry for your loss and the loss his family and followers have to endure. Wishing you peace and comfort.
So very sorry for your loss, Molly. Thank you for sharing this. I always enjoyed Grant's work and appreciated his efforts in promoting the game I love. I didn't know much about the man aside from his work, but reading the many tributes that have emerged since yesterday told me all I need to know of his humanity and only makes this sadder. I hope that his friends and loved ones can heal from this terrible grief and that even those just learning of his work can help to spread his voice now when it's needed most. YNWA
