Join me on Zoom in the Lab today at 12 PM PT
Our weekly hour of creativity...with a little baseball chatter
Hi friends-
Once again I’d like to welcome all our new subscribers who have joined the Long Game over the past month!
We mostly talk about baseball in these parts, but we have also fostered a community that meets once a week to support each other on our creative journeys. It is a sacred (but fun!) hour each Saturday from 12 to 1 PM PT/3 to 4 PM ET—and it’s a zoom available to all paid subscribers.
We talk for a few minutes about what we’re working on at the start of the hour, and any issues that are coming up and keeping us stuck. Then we chat a little about baseball. Then we offer each other creative (and fandom) encouragement, then dive in for 45 minutes or so of uninterrupted creativity.
If you don’t think you’re a creative person, you’re wrong! Creativity can mean journaling, doodling, meditating, sorting a sock drawer, cooking meals for the week, clearing out old clothes to give to goodwill, coding, listening to music, hand writing a thank you note to a friend, or anything else that does not involve reading discourse about blue check marks. We do this in silence on our own, then we come back together at the end of the hour to process what came up.
If you don’t know what else to do, you can do what I try to do each morning and write down a list of people of things you are grateful for. I promise it will help make your Saturday a little better.
Some of us keep our cameras on. Some of us don’t. You don’t have to talk or be seen if you don’t want to. You will not be called on to participate if it’s not your thing.
If you haven’t joined one of these sessions before, think of it like a group yoga class, and the rest of us like your gym buddies. Or if you hate exercise, just think of it as an accountability hour. Have you been putting off a phone call to DirectTV to sort out why your bill is higher this month? Do you need to do your dishes or fold your laundry? Is there a pile of papers on your desk that you need to attend to but have been putting off? (raises hand). These may not feel like creative tasks, but they can be annoying blocks that get in the way of us enjoying our weekends with friends anf family and living more creative lives.
Just give yourself an hour to get started and see where you land when we’re done. You may be amazed by how far you get. Or, you may be amazed that you were even able to get started at all (which is also half the battle with literally everything in life).
It doesn’t have to be serious. Today I will be working on a piece on why Jacob deGrom keeps breaking. Although, come to think of it, now I’m depressed!
Since it’s now baseball season we will continue to meet in the Lab each Saturday at noon PT, as our Sunday Night Baseball live threads have returned to Sundays. So if you can’t join today but would like to join in the future, mark down Saturdays at 12 PM PT for the foreseeable future! And if baseball chatting is your thing, we will be back tomorrow at 4 PM PT/7 PM ET for Astros vs Phillies on Sunday Night Baseball.
This zoom is for paid subscribers. If you would like to support me and my work by becoming a paid subscriber and join our awesome community, you can do so here.:
It continues to a really scary time for journalists losing their jobs, so I can’t tell you how much your support means to me.
The zoom link is below the paywall. Hope to see you in there. <3
