Our Artist's Way Course Will Begin For Paid Subscribers Next Monday, December 9th
You must respond to this email if you want in.
Hi friends-
We have had so much fun gathering to do The Artist’s Way the last three off-seasons that we are doing it again. We will meet each Monday, starting December 9th for 13 weeks from 5:30 to 6:30 pm PT/8:30 to 9:30 PM ET over Zoom. (The course will run through March 3rd).
What is The Artist’s Way?
Well, it’s a book on tapping into creativity, written by the brilliant Julia Cameron, to help kickstart a fuller, more vibrant life.
It’s a wonderful course for aspiring writers, but also for dancers, cooks, lawyers, teachers, computer programmers, illustrators, parents, welders and anyone else looking to cultivate a more well-rounded existence. I am particularly looking forward to the weekly artist’s dates, as I was still recovering from long COVID earlier this year and unable to go on the adventures I really wanted to. I have read this book seven (!) times and I still get something new out of it every go-round. If you’ve done the course with us before and want to jump back in, please do! All are welcome.
The book is divided into 12 chapters. Each week you’ll read a chapter on your own and work through the exercises, then we’ll gather the following Monday for group discussion. These group meetings are powerful and healing and funny and fun and I learned so much from everyone the last three go-rounds that there was no question we’ll do this every off-season. Gathering weekly with likeminded souls who are working to shed their fears and blocks and laugh their way through awkward growing pains is a highlight of my year, and so many of you have told me the same.
The book has sold millions of copies and can be found anywhere books are sold. It’s currently $9 on Amazon, $12 from Powell’s, and I’m guessing your local library has it ready to borrow for free.
If reading books can be a block for you (and it is for me as my eyesight gets worse), it’s also available on Audible, which is currently running a free trial for new customers. (Listening to books in the car while I’m stuck in LA traffic has become a favorite hobby of mine).
Here’s what one Amazon reviewer, Cody P., wrote about The Artist’s Way back in November, 2022:
I was at a semi-low point during the pandemic, and my friend said he had just started reading an incredible book that was really affecting his outlook on life. I decided to download the book just because I had the time.
It changed my life.
I had no idea what was hiding within me...or, should I say, what I was keeping hidden within me. Gosh, it's been over a year since I first made my way through the book, and I still write my Morning Pages, I'm better as self-assessment, and my creativity continues to bloom in ways I never knew it could.
Super grateful.
This Monday will just be a quick session over Zoom where we will talk about what to expect during this course. You do NOT have to have read anything before then. If you are curious about the book but still not sure you want to do the course, show up to that zoom and maybe it will help you determine if it’s right for you at this time.
Also, even if you aren’t sure you can fully commit to being there EVERY week for the full 13 weeks, that’s okay too. There’s no attendance taken. You can pop in and out as you please. Honestly, if you read the book along with us and can only make it to one or two of the zooms you still might hear someone else say something that unlocks something you’ve been struggling with. These are informal zooms. You never have to talk if you don’t want to. You don’t even have to turn your camera on.
And if you start the course and you don’t like it, or it turns out you just don’t have the time, that’s OK too! You don’t have to send me an uncomfortable email. Just Irish goodbye your way out the door lol.
The last few times we’ve done the Artist’s Way we’ve had about 25-30 people each time.
If you are interested in joining us for this round, all you have to do is:
Be a paid subscriber to The Long Game.
Respond to this email that you want in. (This way I can put you on a separate group email with everyone else and I won’t have to email our larger Long Game readership about this each week.)
Financial need is never a barrier in these parts. If you would like to take this course but can’t afford a paid subscription right now (been there!), email me. I’ve got a few donated paid subscriptions to give away.
I’m excited to get started! Just let me know if you want to join us. I will still write about baseball over the next few months, this is just a separate thing that you won’t receive weekly emails about if you don’t sign up.
OK, all. Have a wonderful day!
I am interersted, but I hadn't subscribed to the emails (am subscribed to the newsletter, just not to getting emails), so I don't have an email to reply to.
I did just change my settings to turn on emails from "Creativity" posts, so hopefully that will be resolved for the future.
can i join artist’s way?
