TOKYO —-
Hi friends,
After being here for three days my body is starting to acclimate to the time change, which means I am finally hungry (starving, actually), which means I am ready to eat everything you tell me to at the Tokyo Dome over the next few days. As the lines were quite long and I’ve been working, I was only able to grab some pizza on Saturday (it was awful. Whoever invented teriyaki chicken pizza should have their taste buds removed), and some Teppanyaki garlic chicken fingers yesterday (which were excellent. Would eat again!).
I walked the concourse yesterday to snap pics of everything they had to offer, and I’m culling the most interesting options here. Here’s a free idea to every MLB team: ask your players what their favorite stadium food is, then post a huge banner like this with a photo of the player, the food, the price, and where in the stadium fans can find it, as the Yomiuri Giants have done here (they mostly picked burgers and desserts, because they are boring):
So without further ado, here’s all the food that spoke to me (Baskin Robbins not included), and how much it costs in yen. I’ve found the portions to be pretty tiny compared to American ballparks, but that’s probably because American food portions are designed to kill us.
We start our tour with poké bowls ($8 USD) and garlic shrimp ($5.38 USD):
I don’t eat shrimp but I love poké. Am I brave enough to try ballpark poké? Stay tuned!
Next up is the Banh mi ($5-6 dollars USD) and Pho ($5-7 USD):
I would have gone for the Banh Mi yesterday if I could have figured out what was on it to ensure it didn’t cook my jetlagged tender tummy alive. Check the sunflower seeds in the bottom left. I have no idea what anything else is lol.
Next we have the spam ball with rice egg and the Hawaiian donut both $3 USD:
Hard pass on the spam, and I’m more of a cookie girlie than a donut girlie.
We move on to the stir fry, which could work for me, but wouldn’t be my first choice, unless you can prove to me I’m wrong. I do love Thai food though. These dishes must be bigger, because they’re a whopping $8 USD:
Moving on to the curry! The Dome style curry burst ($9 USD, pictured left) is full of stuff I don’t recognize, but I’m not afraid of spice. I believe most of these dishes are sausage, cheese, and egg (sooooo… spicy McMuffin’s with no bread and runny egg? Who can say!)
More meat ($9 USD). Lots and lots of meat
